PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

UNDERSTAND WHAT'S DRIVING PARENT-SCHOOL CONFLICT.
ResolvED trains independent school faculty and staff to handle difficult parent interactions before they escalate, led by a mediator who has seen where these conflicts end up.

The Challenge

PARENT CONFLICT RARELY STARTS
WITH THE EMAIL THAT REACHES
THE HEAD OF SCHOOL.

THE ESCALATION OFTEN BEGINS MUCH EARLIER.

A question about a grade. A disagreement over an accommodation. A disciplinary decision. A parent who doesn't feel heard.

By the time an issue reaches school leadership, the original problem may no longer be the only problem.

ResolvED prepares your faculty and staff to respond well at the first conversation, not the fifth.

THE BEST TIME TO ADDRESS CONFLICT IS BEFORE IT ESCALATES.

WHO LEADS THE TRAINING?

DEBORAH JACOBSON

Deborah Jacobson mediates the disputes schools hope never to have. Trained through the Mediation Training Program of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, she handles civil rights, disability, and multi-party cases involving school districts and independent schools nationwide. At ResolvED, she teaches faculty and staff how to handle the conversations that come long before a lawyer does.

THE ISSUES MAY BE DIFFERENT.
THE PATTERN OF ESCALATION IS OFTEN FAMILIAR.

The underlying issue matters. But so does what happens next: how the concern is received, how the school responds, and whether the interaction moves toward resolution or escalation.

CONTRACTS & SCHOOL POLICIES

When families and schools disagree about handbook provisions, policies, expectations, or what each believes was agreed to.

BULLYING & STUDENT SAFETY

When concerns involve student-to-student behavior, allegations involving an adult's treatment of a child, or whether the school's response was appropriate.

POLITICAL, RELIGIOUS & IDENTITY-BASED CONFLICT

When political or religious views, antisemitism, racism, discrimination, or classroom and community issues create conflict between families and the school.

GRADES & ACADEMIC EVALUATION

When families question a grade, how academic work was evaluated, whether standards were applied consistently, or how a grading disagreement was handled.

LEARNING DIFFERENCES & ACCOMMODATIONS

When families and schools disagree about learning needs, accommodations, implementation, expectations, or appropriate support.

DISCIPLINE & STUDENT RECORDS

When families question whether discipline was fair, how a decision was made, or what information becomes part of a student's school record.

THE ISSUE THAT STARTS THE CONFLICT MATTERS. HOW THE SCHOOL RESPONDS CAN DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

FAMILY–SCHOOL INSIGHTS

THE RESOLVED APPROACH

BUILT AROUND YOUR SCHOOL. LED BY A MEDIATOR.

Every school has different pressure points. We start with yours, then build the training around the situations your faculty and staff actually face.

FROM CONFLICT INSIGHT
TO PRACTICAL RESPONSE

  • LEADERSHIP CONVERSATION:
We begin with school leadership to identify the conflicts your faculty and staff face most.

  • TRAINING:
Deborah Jacobson teaches from your school's results: why certain responses escalate, what the parent hears, and what to do instead.

  • FACULTY CASE RESPONSES:
Faculty and staff complete a short questionnaire and respond to realistic scenarios from those areas. Results are reported in aggregate only.

  • LIVE CASE DEBRIEF:
A live session with Deborah Jacobson on your school's responses, with time for faculty questions.

WE DON'T START WITH A GENERIC WORKSHOP. WE START WITH YOUR SCHOOL.

WHERE IS PARENT-SCHOOL CONFLICT
SHOWING UP AT YOUR SCHOOL?

ResolvED works with a small number of independent schools each year. Each engagement is built around the situations your faculty and staff actually face.
